AeroDial Simple User Guide

First-time setup on the dial

From the screen with the START button, you can either set up AeroDial on the dial or connect to AeroDial-Setup and complete setup through the Web Console.

1. Connect AeroDial to USB power.
2. Tap START on the welcome screen.
3. Select Wi-Fi and enter the password. The password remains visible while typing.
4. Enter the home latitude and longitude.
5. Enter the weather airport's four-character ICAO code, such as EBLG, EBBR, or KJFK.
6. When READY appears, the main menu opens.

Use an ICAO code, not an IATA code: use EBBR, not BRU.

First-time setup from the Web Console

If AeroDial is not configured, it creates:

• Network: AeroDial-Setup
• Password: 12345678
• Address: http://192.168.4.1

1. Connect your phone or computer to AeroDial-Setup.
2. Open http://192.168.4.1.
3. Open Device, enter your normal Wi-Fi details, and select Change network.
4. Reconnect to your normal Wi-Fi.
5. Open the new IP address shown on AeroDial.
6. Use Location and Device to finish setup.

Basic navigation

• Tap the left or right side to move between items or pages.
• Tap the center to open or select.
• Tap BACK to return.
• On keyboards, use DEL, CLEAR, OK, and CANCEL as labelled.

The main menu contains Radar, METAR, Satellite, and Config.

Radar

Radar shows aircraft and ships around the saved home location.

• Tap left for quick radar settings.
• Tap right for the traffic list.
• Tap center to return to the menu.

Radar settings

• Radius: choose the viewing range from 1 to 250 km with the slider, or tap the number to type an exact value.
• Heading / North Offset: set the direction faced by the top of AeroDial.
• Mode: aircraft and ships, aircraft only, or ships only.
• Labels: choose when labels appear and which details they show.
• Ground aircraft: show or hide aircraft reported on the ground.
• Sweep: turn the rotating sweep on or off.
• Map: show or hide the map background.

Aircraft labels can include flight, callsign, registration, type, altitude, speed, distance, and route.

Map styles

• Default Night: standard dark map and default style.
• Mono Night: simplified dark map.
• Mono Day: simplified light map.
• Default Day: standard light map.

Radar colors

The Web Console can change aircraft, ground aircraft, labels, airports, sweep, and ring colors. Changes are saved and appear on the dial after the next refresh.

METAR weather

METAR shows weather for the selected airport.

• Move left or right between the interpreted and raw report views.
• Tap REFRESH if needed.
• Tap the center to return to the menu.

Change the airport's ICAO code under Config or in Web Console Device.

Satellite

Satellite shows the selected satellite and its calculated position.

• Drag the globe to rotate it.
• Tap the globe to pause or resume rotation.
• Tap the left side to select another satellite.
• Tap outside the globe to return to the menu.

Config on the dial

Move left or right through:

• Web Console: IP address and QR code.
• Wi-Fi: scan and manage saved networks.
• Airport ICAO: weather airport.
• Location: latitude, longitude, and map point.
• Radar: radius, North Offset, mode, labels, colors, sweep, and map.
• Data Source: aircraft provider.
• Satellite: selected satellite.
• Update: installed version and update check.

Settings remain saved when AeroDial is unplugged. Radius and North Offset are saved when you confirm them.

Using the Web Console

Your phone or computer must be on the same Wi-Fi network as AeroDial. Open Config → Web Console and enter the displayed address, or scan the QR code.

• Overview: connection, traffic counts, weather, coverage, and current screen.
• Radar: radar behavior, maps, labels, colors, and aircraft tracking.
• Location: home point and radar range.
• Feeds: aircraft source, satellite, and optional local ADS-B.
• Device: Wi-Fi and METAR airport.

The IP address can change after reconnecting. Check the dial again if an old address stops working.

Aircraft sources and local ADS-B

Select an online aircraft source under Feeds in the Web Console or Data Source on the dial.

Optional local ADS-B receiver

1. Connect AeroDial and your tar1090/readsb receiver to the same network.
2. Open Feeds → Local ADS-B receiver.
3. Enter the receiver's full aircraft.json address.
4. Save it to activate the local source.

Local ADS-B supplies aircraft data only. Maps, weather, ships, satellites, and updates still need internet access.

Wi-Fi and updates

AeroDial remembers successful Wi-Fi connections and can try another saved network when the last one is unavailable. If none works, it starts AeroDial-Setup.

1. Open Config → Update.
2. Tap CHECK.
3. If available, tap INSTALL.
4. Keep stable USB power connected until the restart finishes.

Common messages

• NO AIRCRAFT / NO SHIPS: no matching targets are available for the selected location, radius, source, and mode.
• RETRY: the source is being tried again.
• STALE: displayed data is older than expected.
• WIFI ERR: AeroDial is offline and reconnecting.

Quick troubleshooting

• Confirm Wi-Fi, location, radius, and radar mode.
• Try another aircraft source.
• For local ADS-B, confirm both devices are on the same network and the address is correct.
• For maps, confirm Map is enabled and internet access is available.
• If the Web Console does not open, use the current IP shown on the dial and include http://.
• If AeroDial does not respond, disconnect USB power, wait a few seconds, and reconnect.

Care and support

• Keep AeroDial dry and away from excessive heat.
• Clean it with a soft, dry cloth.
• Use gentle touches and stable USB power.
• Support the USB-C connector when inserting or removing the cable.
